LITTLE STARS

Little Stars aims to provide a link between normal play sessions and the leap up to school, without too many changes that can be unsettling for a child. We run Little Stars over the last two terms before your child starts school. It provides a gentle way for your child to get to know a large number of his/her future class mates while being with familiar staff and within familiar surroundings.

Sessions are held on Friday morning 9-11.30 and Friday afternoon 12.30-3.00

What your child will do

You may notice that the set up of the room is different and each session will follow a specific theme. You will receive a Little Stars theme letter in addition to the play session theme letters. Please help the children by making them aware of the differences and keep an eye on the notice board for any last minute updates. Activities will vary week to week and will include a sharing and listening time, pencil control, number recognition, group activities, board games, music & movement, story time and library books. At snack time, the children are encouraged to pour their own drinks and wipe the table afterwards.

What they will need

Pre-school provides all Little Stars with a pump bag which they may keep. The children will take part in a music and movement session. For the first term they will need only a pair of pumps in their bag. (Velcro fasteners are great).
After Easter they will need a suitable PE kit – Moulton School colours are royal blue T-shirt and white shorts.
Please ensure that all PE kit and normal clothes, including shoes and pumps are clearly named. Be kind to your children as they will be encouraged to change independently so no difficult fastens please. (We will always be there to help but as we all know they like to be grown up!).

In line with DfEE guidelines, Pre-school maintains a record of the development of each child in the little stars group. These focus on:-

Communication/Language/Literacy CLL
Personal/Social/Emotional PSE
Knowledge and understanding of the world KUW
Physical development PhD
Creative development CD
Mathematical development M

Each child’s development is unique and special, and children often progress at different rates in these different areas of development. A designated member of staff will monitor each child’s progress. You will be informed at the beginning of the spring term which member of staff will be monitoring your child.

Links with home

It is very important that we have close links with parents/carers as to “happenings at home”. This is equally important with regard to development and happiness, if you feel that your child has reached a new land mark in its development please let us know so that we can keep the records up to date.
All records are kept confidentially.
They will, however, will be available for parents to view at any time.
Stars session children will bring home a book from our library and a ‘to do’ book, to share with their family. This enables a two-way communication ‘to and from’ home to Pre-school. (Please bring along to either a Monday or Friday afternoon session ONLY)

A Practical Note

We are sometimes able to run these sessions with a volunteer instead of a parent on the rota, However, this isn’t always possible and if we do need to run a parents rota we ask you not to bring other children with you as the style of these sessions make this very difficult. As a step towards independence, please say goodbye to your child in the foyer.
