Safety Policy and Practice
Moulton Pre-School intends
to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions for all employees
and to ensure the safety of all children. Pre-School
will therefore ensure that:
- Safety checks on premises both outdoors and indoors, are made before
every day/session.
- At the beginning of a session the outside door is locked and the
key is placed on a hook out of the children’s reach
- In accordance with OFSTED and Social
Services recommendations the red doors to the main hall will remain
open during session and children will
be encouraged to go the toilet independently, seeking assistance where
necessary.
- Outdoor space is securely fenced.
- Equipment is checked regularly and any dangerous items repaired/discarded.
- Fire doors are never obstructed.
- Children do not have unsupervised access to kitchens, cookers or
any cupboards storing hazardous materials including matches.
- Fires/heaters/electric points/wires and leads are adequately
guarded.
- All dangerous materials, e.g. cleaning materials are stored
out of reach of children.
- A first aid box
is kept on the kitchen hatch in the main room and checked daily by
a nominated staff member.
- All accidents recorded in the accident book by member
of staff dealing with the accident. Parents are informed
of the
accident
at the end of
the session and asked to sign the book.
- Whenever children are on the premises at least
two adults are present.
- On outings the adult: child ratio will be 1:2
or 1:3 depending on the ages of the children and
the nature
of
the outing.
- If a small group goes out there will be sufficient
adults to maintain appropriate ratios for Staff
and children remaining
on
the premises.
- Pre-school operates a No Smoking policy.
- Activities such as cooking and energetic
play receive close and constant supervision.
- The premises are checked before locking
up at the end of the day/session.
- The chair of the Management Committee
has overall and final responsibility
for ensuring
that the
policy is implemented,
he/she will be assisted
in this by the Supervisor/s.
- Consultation between Committee and
Staff on issues regarding health and
safety will
take place
at Committee
meetings.
